Can you broil hamburgers in the oven

If you're looking for a fast, easy way to prepare flavorful hamburgers, look no further than the broiler function of your cooking range. Making burgers in the oven is more convenient than firing up the grill — especially if you don't own one or your yard's under a foot of snow — and it means less splattering oil and fewer calories than frying them on the stove top.

Your burger broiling adventure begins long before you stick the patties in the oven. It starts with selecting the best ground beef for your purpose: ground chuck. This cut has the fat content you want — 15 to 20 percent — for lots of flavor and juiciness and to stand up to the high heat of broiling.

If you can't get ground chuck, go with ground sirloin or ground round. Ground sirloin is bursting with beefy flavor, but your burgers will probably be a little on the dry side. Conversely, ground round lacks flavor but cooks up moister than ground sirloin. Add seasoning to the ground beef before forming hamburger patties. Break apart the meat and place it in a bowl.

At minimum, add salt and pepper. There are plenty of other options, like garlic or onion powder, chili powder or red pepper flakes if you want some heat, mustard powder, basil, oregano, etc. If you wound up with less-flavorful ground round, be a little heavier handed with the herbs and spices, or use a few more. Top each burger with sauteed onions and with cheese and return the pan to the oven to melt the cheese.

To avoid dense burgers, try to handle the meat as lightly as you can during all phases of this recipe, including seasoning the meat and shaping the patties.

They'll still taste great even if they're a bit dense, but they're better and juicier if you're gentle when handling the meat. Frying or grilling do work best to create a wonderful crust on the outside of the patties, sealing the juices in. But broiled burgers, while not as wonderfully browned, are excellent, and broiling is so much easier than pan-frying.

As for baked hamburgers , they are delicious, but they are the least juicy out of all these hamburger cooking options. Not long! I find that for medium doneness, it's best to cook the patties for 3 minutes per side.

Obviously, as with all recipes, you will need to check in your own oven and make sure they are done to your liking. Admittedly, using freshly ground chuck is always best. I don't bother with buns when serving these burgers.

It's been a long time since I had any kind of bread. Sure, cloud bread and second bread can serve as buns. But I find that bunless burgers are just as enjoyable. As for side dishes, they're obviously great with fries. I often serve them with jicama fries or with zucchini fries. Leftovers keep fine in the fridge, in an airtight container, for days. You can start with about 30 seconds per side and see if they're heated through.

Bacon Burger. Cooking burgers under the broiler is so easy, and they come out wonderfully juicy and flavorful. Prep Time 10 mins. Cook Time 10 mins. Divide your meat of choice into four equal portions. Each portion should weigh around seven ounces, so you should divide according to the overall weight you have.

On top of that, each patty should have a width of 4—5 inches and a thickness of three quarters an inch. After dividing the meat into patties, place them on a flat surface for seasoning.

You can use a lot of other spices , such as oregano, chilli powder, onion powder, basil, or mustard powder. If you prefer a spicy flavour, we recommend adding one of those to the patties along with the salt and pepper. You can also cook hamburgers with liquid flavours. If you have a bottle of hot sauce lying around, you can include it in the recipe. Worcestershire sauce and steak sauce will also work perfectly well.

Lastly, you can add some onion, minced garlic, and bell pepper to the recipe if you like the tangy veggie addition to the burgers. Just make sure to saute them for a bit before adding them to the meat, so they gain their flavours. Afterward, leave them to cool for a bit and add them right onto the ground beef.

Some people broil hamburgers in toaster ovens, while others do it in regular ones. Then, grease it lightly before leaving it to heat. On the other hand, if your broiler is inside the oven , just grab the oven rack and position it underneath the broiler. You can use any surface for the hamburgers, including skillets and baking trays—whatever you have available. The heat should already be high and ready since you turned it on earlier.

Broil the hamburger patties for around three minutes before flipping them. Their tops should be well-browned, and they should be on the verge of charring. If their colour is still light, leave them for a couple more minutes. Afterward, flip the patties and leave them to broil.
